Georgetown hangs on, beats Burlington 2-0

The Georgetown Raiders took the lead against the Burlington Cougars in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-0 victory.

A goal 18:39 into the the first period by Nick Perruccio proved to be the game winner, and powered Georgetown to the victory Stephen Genua provided the assist.

After the loss made the series score 1-3 in the best of seven series, Burlington faces elimination next time out.

The Raiders' penalty kill excelled, as Georgetown gave up zero goals despite allowing 10 power plays.

Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 20 penalties during the game.

The Raiders racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. Georgetown had been averaging 21 minutes in penalties per game. The Raiders stifled the Cougars' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Georgetown forced Burlington goalie Alex Murray to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

Georgetown also got points from Perruccio, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Georgetown got a goal from Conor McLoughlin as well. Other players who recorded assists for Georgetown were Nathaniel Domagala and Ryan Lopes, who each chipped in one.

The Cougars forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. Burlington surpassed its season average of 17 penalty minutes per game. The Cougars' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Georgetown power plays. Burlington was held below its usual level of production. The Cougars average two goals per game.

Steven Racine turned away 15 pucks between the pipes for the Raiders. For Georgetown, Alex Lubczuk was ejected from the game. Alex Murray made 43 saves for Burlington on 45 shots. Team's Justin Scott and Jeremy Gottzmann were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
