Finch's big game bests Aurora in 6-2 Stouffville winStouffville Arena Sun, Feb 26, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Stouffville Spirit's Christian Finch had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 6-2 win over the Aurora Tigers. Finch's tallies came at 1:31 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Stouffville and on the power play 12:26 into the third to make the score 6-1 Stouffville.The win by Stouffville broke a deadlock and gave the Spirit a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series. The referees were busy during the game, as 19 penalties were assessed during the course of the contest. Aurora was unable to stop Stouffville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Spirit eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. Stouffville's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Spirit finished with 28 penalty minutes. Stouffville additionally got points from Finch, who also registered two goals and two assists and Andrew Doyle, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Alex Botten and Chris Porter also scored for Stouffville. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Drake Caggiula, who had two, Paul Geiger, who had three, and Matthew Heffernan, Thomas Tsicos, and Robert Powers, who each chipped in one. The Tigers forced Stouffville goalie Jonathan Hall to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Aurora could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Justin Nice, who totaled 12 minutes in penalty time with one minor and one misconduct. The Tigers were helped by Dylan Wallace, who had one goal. Wallace scored on the power play 11:27 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Stouffville. A tripping penalty on Josh Chapman had put Aurora on the power play. Chad Bennett picked up the assist. Aurora got a goal from Kevin Shier as well. Other players who recorded assists for Aurora were Jeff MacPherson and Brendan Barletta, who contributed one each. Hall turned away 32 pucks between the pipes for the Spirit. Stouffville registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. Brett Sinclair recorded 33 saves for the Tigers. Aurora registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
