Stouffville falls to Aurora in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

Daniel Lisi gave the Aurora Tigers a 4-3 (OT) victory over the Stouffville Spirit when he scored 2:49 into the extra period.

The win gave Aurora a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Tigers almost relinquished a two-score lead. Aurora made the score 3-1 on a goal by Dylan Sikura at 4:30 in the third period. Stouffville got to within 3-2 on a power play goal by Drake Caggiula at 5:08 in the third period.

Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 19 penalties during the game.

The Tigers kept the Spirit's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jonathan Hall made 42 saves on 46 shots. Aurora's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Tigers finished with 16 penalty minutes.

Aurora was led by Chad Bennett, who grabbed two goals. Bennett scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 18:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Aurora. The Tigers earned a power play opportunity when Josh Chapman was put in the box for tripping. Jarrett Fennell assisted on the tally. Bennett's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Aurora with 13:32 left in the second period. Aurora had gained a power play chance when Matthew Heffernan was whistled for cross checking. Brendan Barletta picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Aurora were Derek Sheppard, who had two and Justin Nice, Nick Angelo, and Dylan Wallace, who each chipped in one.

Stouffville found itself short handed often, totaling 32 penalty minutes and allowing nine power plays.

More assists for Stouffville came via Christian Finch, who had two and Chris Porter, Christian Powers, and Dylan Savory, who contributed one a piece.

Brett Sinclair made 26 saves for the Tigers on 29 shots. The Spirit registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
