Robert Speer gave the Motor City Chiefs the lead in the first period, and the Kalkaska Roughnecks was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 5-3. Motor City took over the lead for good with a goal by Speer at 7:59 in the first period. The Chiefs earned a power play opportunity when Mark Gauthier was put in the box for roughing. John Mulligan picked up the assist.After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, Kalkaska faces elimination next time out. Mulligan was all over the ice for Motor City, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Mulligan scored 10:44 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Motor City. Justin Van Hecker assisted on the tally. In the losing effort, the Roughnecks were led by Bradley Voice, who tallied two goals. Voice scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:47 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Motor City. Kalkaska had taken the advantage when the Chiefs' Thomas Novak got sent off for elbowing. Dugan Kelly picked up the assist. Austin Ahlers provided the assist. The Chiefs forced Kalkaska goalie Calvin Burkhart to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Motor City was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. Travis McGuckin also scored for Motor City. More assists for Motor City came via Zachary Wiacek, who had one. The Roughnecks' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Kalkaska finished with 18 penalty minutes. In addition, Kalkaska received assists from Matthew Elswick, who had one. Keegan McHenry recorded 27 saves for the Chiefs. Motor City registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Calvin Burkhart made 32 saves for the Roughnecks on 37 shots. Kalkaska registered three goals on 10 power play opportunities.
