Picton survives Port Hope comeback, wins 4-3

The Picton Pirates survived a determined comeback attempt by the Port Hope Panthers on the way to a 4-3 win.

Picton made the score 4-2 on a goal by Mitch Rosborough at 15:15 in the third period, and Port Hope got as close as 4-3 when Jacob Spicer scored 17:21 into the third period.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, the Panthers face elimination next time out.

Rosborough had two goals to lead the Pirates to victory.

Picton excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Pirates' offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 65 shots put on Port Hope's net.

Picton got a goal from Wil Healey as well. In addition, Picton received assists from Tyler Kearns, who had one and Ryan Sizer, who had two.

The Panthers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Picton to score on any of its four power plays. Port Hope forced the Pirates goalie Matt Kaludis to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

Kyle Giroux also scored for Port Hope. Other players who recorded assists for Port Hope were Logan Arsenault, who had two and Ryan Thistlethwaite, Josh Fagan, and Chris Jones, who contributed one each.

Kaludis recorded 39 saves for Picton. The Pirates incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. DJ Torrenueva turned away 61 pucks between the pipes for the Panthers. Port Hope incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
