Wellesley falls to Ayr in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Andrew Richard gave the Ayr Centennials a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Wellesley Applejacks when he scored 18:01 into the extra period.

The win by Ayr clinched the best of seven series at 4-1.

Richard was all over the ice for the Centennials, as he finished with two goals in the win.

Ayr kept Wellesley's goalie busy throughout the game, and Josh Heer made 44 saves on 49 shots. The Centennials' penalty kill unit could not stop the Applejacks' power play, which converted on three of five opportunities.

Cody Tapsell also scored for Ayr. In addition, Ayr received assists from Jay Fried, Patrick McKelvie, Alex Richard, and Adam Brubacher, who contributed one a piece and Scott Sippel and Nathan Redford, who each chipped in two.

Wellesley could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Applejacks were helped by Connor McLeod, who tallied two goals. McLeod scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:26 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Wellesley. A boarding penalty on Fried had put Wellesley on the power play. Geoff Parr assisted on the tally. McLeod's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Wellesley with 3:32 left in the third period. Corey Way provided the assist. Wellesley also got points from Tyler Eckert, who also registered one goal and one assist. Wellesley also got a goal from Josh Herd as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were James Mildon, Rob Hinschberger, and Matt Sovereign, who contributed one a piece.

Lee Doherty rejected 26 shots on goal for Ayr. The Centennials incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
