Ayr blows out Wellesley, 5-1

The Wellesley Applejacks had trouble finding ways to stop the Ayr Centennials, which beat Applejacks, 5-1.

The win gave Ayr a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Centennials were paced by Logan Beechey, who finished with one goal. Beechey scored 3:17 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ayr.

Ayr's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Wellesley power plays. The Centennials' offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 45 shots put on Wellesley's net.

Ayr stifled the Applejacks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Ayr got a goal from Cody Tapsell as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Jordan Eby and Scott Sippel, who each chipped in one.

Wellesley was led by Connor McLeod, who scored the team's only goal. McLeod scored 13:50 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Ayr. Mitch Metzger provided the assist.

Jordan Witt recorded 22 saves for the Centennials. Ayr incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Wellesley's Josh Heer stopped 40 shots out of the 45 that he faced. The Applejacks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.

The Centennials registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
