Tavistock wins tough contest against St. George, 4-2

The Tavistock Braves and the St. George Dukes were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Tavistock made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Matthew Lupton's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, St. George faces elimination next time out.

Charlie Malson was all over the ice for the Braves, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Malson's tallies came on the power play at 17:39 into the first period to make the score 2-1 St. George and 19:11 into the third to make the score 4-2 Tavistock.

Tavistock's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three St. George power plays. The Braves kept the Dukes' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tanner Armstrong made 34 saves on 38 shots. Tavistock got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Tavistock also got a goal from James McCorquodale as well. Other players who recorded assists for Tavistock were Blair Mackay, who had two and Josh Bobyk and Nick Quehl, who contributed one a piece.

Penalties took their toll on St. George, as its penalty kill unit let in two power play goals.

The Dukes were helped by Dennis Larson, who finished with one goal. Larson scored 3:32 into the first period to make the score 2-0 St. George. Chris Vasile also scored for St. George. More assists for St. George came via Josh Wrobel, who had one.

The Braves' Luke Zehr stopped 18 shots out of the 20 that he faced. Tavistock incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. St. George incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
