Delhi rips Norfolk, 8-3

The Delhi Travellers had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-3 win over the Norfolk Rebels.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Norfolk faces elimination next time out.

Delhi's penalty kill excelled, as the Travellers gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 16 penalties during the game.

Delhi made the Rebels' goaltenders to work without much rest, taking 45 shots and forcing 37 saves. Jason Miller made 37 stops and Jeff Stillman made zero. The Travellers' defensemen played an important role in the offense, as they chipped in two goals. Delhi could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Mac Scott, who totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one misconduct.

The Travellers were led by Jake Legein, who finished with one goal and two assists. Legein scored 11:18 into the third period to make the score 8-3 Delhi. Jake Durrant assisted on the tally. Delhi also got points from Marty MacDonald, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Legein, who also registered one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Delhi included Corbit Morrison, who had two and Nathan Moyaert, Harrison McRobert, Travis Harper, and Taylor Hockley, who each put in one. More assists for Delhi came via Josh Bradshaw and Brad Ward, who contributed one each and Jordan DeGroote, Reid Morrison, and Trever Beihn, who each chipped in two.

Norfolk's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Rebels finished with 34 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Kurtis Pettitt, who totaled 12 minutes in penalty time with one minor and one misconduct.

Norfolk was led by Chris Murray, who racked up two goals. Murray scored the first of his two goals at 8:06 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Delhi. Steve Parker picked up the assist. Murray's next tally made the score 7-3 Delhi with 9:13 left in the third period. The Rebels had taken the advantage when Delhi's Derek Friesen got sent off for slashing. Parker provided the assist. Dave Matthews also scored for Norfolk. Other players who recorded assists for Norfolk were Allan Lishman and Dylan Heaslip, who contributed one each.

Nick Heath took the win and made 15 saves before being replaced by Chris Polgar who made 10 saves. The Travellers registered two goals on eight power play opportunities.
