Mitchell squeaks by Hanover, 4-3

Mitchell Arena    Fri, Feb 24, 2012

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Mitchell Hawks escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Hanover Barons.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Jacob Patterson secured the win for Mitchell with a goal in the third period.

After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, Hanover faces elimination next time out.

The Barons' power play was ineffective against the Hawks' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Chris Newcombe also scored for Mitchell. More assists for Mitchell came via Jade Maxwell, Jalen Aitcheson, Dillon Drinkwalter, Scott Fries, Tyler Masson, and Ryan Magagnin, who each chipped in one.

The Barons had trouble staying out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 16 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays. The leading offender was Hayden Smith, who totaled eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.

Hanover was helped by Robbie Moe, who racked up one goal and one assist. Moe scored on the power play 17:42 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Hanover. A tripping penalty on Nick Tybik had put the Barons on the power play. Rob Lucciantonio provided the assist.
