Hanover rips Mitchell, 7-2

The Hanover Barons were firing on all cylinders against the Mitchell Hawks, and when the final buzzer sounded Barons emerged with a 7-2 win.

With the win, Hanover evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown.

Jason Demetrius was all over the ice for the Barons, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Demetrius scored the first of his two goals at 6:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hanover. Brad Pitt assisted on the tally. Demetrius' next tally made the score 4-0 Hanover with 19:28 left in the second period. Cole Rooney picked up the assist.

Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 22 penalties during the game.

Hanover forced Mitchell's goaltenders to work in net, ripping 33 shots and forcing 26 saves. Drew Reinhardt made 13 stops and Taylor VanBoekel made 13. The Barons found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Hanover has scored at the pace of four goals per game during the current campaign. The Barons' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Hanover finished with 54 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Matt Drake, who totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one misconduct.

Hanover additionally got points from Drake, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Hanover also had goals scored by Ben Davis, who had two and Alex Kuntz and Trent Hay, who each put in one. In addition, Hanover received assists from Reid Hay, Daniel Hnatko, Rob Lucciantonio, and Tyson Soers, who contributed one each.

The Hawks were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on 11 chances. Mitchell was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 40 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Brendan Nicholson, who totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one misconduct.

The Hawks were helped by Ryan Magagnin, who finished with one goal. Magagnin scored on the power play 2:09 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Hanover. Mitchell had gotten the advantage when the Barons' Dylan Cooper was sent off for roughing. Jalen Aitcheson assisted on the tally. Tyler Egerdee also scored for Mitchell. Other players who recorded assists for Mitchell were Brent Rae and Tyler Masson, who each chipped in one.

Mitch Campbell made 17 saves for Hanover on 19 shots. The Barons registered two goals on eight power play opportunities.
