Walkerton downs Wingham in overtime, 5-4 (OT)Western Jr. C Wed, Feb 15, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Walkerton Hawks pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Wingham Ironmen on a clutch goal by Haden Campbell. The win gave Walkerton a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Hawks nearly gave up a two-score lead. Walkerton made it 4-2 on a goal by Adam Alexander at 18:21 in the second period. Wingham pulled to within 4-3 on a goal by Justin Jacklin at 59 seconds in the third period. Eric Lekun had one goal and two assists to lead the Hawks. Lekun scored short handed 5:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Walkerton. Walkerton played down a man on Mike Bujold's interference. The Hawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Wingham power plays. Walkerton could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Hawks average seven goals per game. Walkerton additionally got points from Alexander, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Matt Hill, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Andy Mitchell also scored for Walkerton. More assists for Walkerton came via Jordan Turcotte and Brad Humberstone, who each chipped in one. Wingham also got points from Jacklin, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Wingham got a goal from Brett Brophy as well. In addition, Wingham received assists from Aaron Armstrong, who had one and Nic Carter, who had two. Jeff Flagler recorded 22 saves for Walkerton. The Hawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. The Ironmen's Matt Stirling stopped 24 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Wingham incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
