Torrenueva stymies Napanee, Port Hope wins 3-1Jack Burger Sports Complex Mon, Feb 13, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
DJ Torrenueva had a standout game with 32 saves, and the Port Hope Panthers beat the Napanee Raiders 3-1. The win gave Port Hope a 1-0 lead in the best of five series. The Panthers pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 26 penalty minutes. Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 20 penalties during the game. Port Hope put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Napanee to score on any of its 10 power plays. The Raiders were unable to stop the Panthers from sending pucks towards the net, and Port Hope eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. Napanee excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances. The Raiders forced the Panthers goalie Torrenueva to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. Napanee was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 34 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Jake Doseger, who totaled 12 minutes in penalty time with one minor and one misconduct. Brad Green recorded 39 saves for the Raiders. For Napanee, Luke Emmons was ejected from the game.
