Cumberland wins tough contest against Nepean, 4-2Nepean Sportsplex Rink 1 Tue, Mar 06, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Cumberland Grads escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Nepean Raiders. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Daniel Walsh at 8:26 of the third period. Walsh had two goals to lead Cumberland to victory. Nepean's power play was ineffective against the Grads' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Cumberland's offense rang up 52 shots on the Raiders' net. The Grads took advantage of Nepean's penalties, tallying two goals off of three power play opportunities. Cumberland additionally got points from Nick Martin, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mark Golberg also scored for Cumberland. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Keegan Harper, Brayden Clancy, Philippe Drouin, Sean Bamford, and Zach Rodier, who each chipped in one. The Raiders' offense operated below they season average. Nepean puts an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game. The Raiders kept Cumberland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Robin Billingham made 34 saves on 36 shots. Nepean was helped by Brent Norris, who finished with one goal. Norris scored 13:48 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jake Butler picked up the assist. Nepean also got a goal from Shaun Altshuller as well. More assists for Nepean came via Dalen Hedges, Mitchell Herlihey, and Cameron Hughes, who contributed one a piece. The Grads incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Raiders' Dylan BrindAmour stopped 48 shots out of the 51 that he faced. Nepean incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
