Stayner wins tough contest against Fergus, 6-5

The Stayner Siskins and the Fergus Devils were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Stayner made the most of its opportunities and won, 6-5.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Riley Brooks secured the win for the Siskins with a goal in the third period.

The win moved Stayner to down 2-0 in the best of seven series.

Cody Brown had a great game for the Siskins, netting two goals. Brown's tallies came on the power play at 11:01 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Stayner and 11:00 into the third to make the score 5-4 Stayner.

Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 20 penalties during the game.

Fergus was unable to stop Stayner from sending pucks towards the net, and the Siskins eventually piled up 54 shots on goal. The defensemen of Stayner were also effective in the Devils' zone, and came away with two goals. The Siskins could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was James Hennessy, who totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one misconduct.

Stayner also got points from Bradley Latour, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Stayner came via Nick Izgerean, Mike Mullay, William Gerow, and Kurtis Sander, who each chipped in one and Evan MacDonald and Corey De Rose, who contributed two each.

Fergus bested its season scoring average. The Devils have scored at the pace of two goals per game during the current campaign. Fergus could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Cody Haw, who totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one misconduct.

The Devils were led by Ben Piluk, who finished with one goal and one assist. Piluk scored on the power play 2:33 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Fergus had gained a power play chance when Hennessy was whistled for head contact. Cole Giles picked up the assist. Fergus got a goal from Robert Ebach as well. In addition, Fergus received assists from Mitchal Lee, James Murray, Luke Reinhart, and Jon Chapman, who each chipped in one.

Gordon Weiss recorded 18 saves for Stayner. The Siskins registered three goals on 11 power play opportunities. Alex Elliott turned away 48 pucks between the pipes for the Devils. Fergus registered three goals on seven power play opportunities.
