California Titans 16U vanquishes Phoenix Firebirds 16U in shootout, 3-2

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as California Titans 16U defeated Phoenix Firebirds 16U in a shootout 3-2.

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Phoenix Firebirds 16U got a shootout goal from Cole Bisbing. California Titans 16U's other shootout goal was scored by Liam Stirtzinger.

California Titans 16U kept Phoenix Firebirds 16U's goalie busy throughout the game, and Cooper Johnston made 31 saves on 34 shots.

California Titans 16U was helped by Danny ODonell, who grabbed one goal. ODonell scored 11:25 into the second period to make the score 2-1 California Titans 16U. Ryan Carriveau assisted on the tally. Jake Lam also scored for California Titans 16U. In addition, California Titans 16U received assists from Austin Wilk, Corey Pelone, and Stirtzinger, who each chipped in one.

Phoenix Firebirds 16U put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow California Titans 16U to score on any of its five power plays. California Titans 16U was unable to stop Phoenix Firebirds 16U from sending pucks towards the net, and Phoenix Firebirds 16U eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. Phoenix Firebirds 16U could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Kevin Clancey, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors.

Phoenix Firebirds 16U got a goal from Terry Dobbins as well. Other players who recorded assists for Phoenix Firebirds 16U were Tanner Otts, who had one.
