Ft. Wayne rolls over Motor City, 7-1

Behind a great game by Nicholas Denice, who had one goal and two assists, the Ft. Wayne Federals defeated the Motor City Chiefs, 7-1.

Denice got on the board by slotting home a short handed goal 14:39 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Ft. Wayne. Ft. Wayne was on a disadvantage when Cory Wissman went off the ice for holding. Ian Harris assisted on the tally. Denice dished an assist on Cody Hess' goal that made the score 1-0 Ft. Wayne at 5:57 into the first period. He added another helper on Tyler Teglia's goal that made the score 5-0 Ft. Wayne at 10:36 into the second period.

The win gave the Federals a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

Ft. Wayne was held back by its power play unit, which tallied one goal on 10 chances.

Ft. Wayne additionally got points from Brendan Lewis, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Eric Raspotnik also scored for Ft. Wayne. In addition, Ft. Wayne received assists from Ryan Matteson, who had one and Derek Moss and Tyler Mason, who each chipped in two.

Motor City was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 57 penalty minutes.

The Federals' Jesse Weitzel stopped 18 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Ft. Wayne incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Chiefs' starting goalie, Brian Ellis, made 10 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Keegan McHenry, who stopped four shots. Motor City registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. The Chiefs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Joshua Koehn was ejected from the game.
