Chicago squeaks by Michigan, 4-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Chicago Jr Bulldogs escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Michigan Ice Dogs.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Daniel Doyle's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

The win gave Chicago a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

The Jr Bulldogs were led by Doyle, who tallied one goal and one assist. Doyle scored 16:54 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Chicago. Michael Maines picked up the assist.

Chicago additionally got points from Vittorio Bruno, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Tyler Cosentino also scored for Chicago. In addition, Chicago received assists from Matthew Soukup, Garrett McCaig, and Adamson Thoma, who each chipped in one.

The Ice Dogs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Michigan was led by Alexander Stewart, who grabbed two goals. Stewart scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:05 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Chicago. The Ice Dogs had gained a power play chance when Luke Morin was whistled for boarding. Tyler Textor provided the assist. Stewart's next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 19:15 left in the third period. Ashton Guy assisted on the tally. Michigan also got a goal from Jeffrey Barton as well. Other players who recorded assists for Michigan were Dalton Gertsen and Matthew Schnoes, who contributed one a piece.

Lee Satran recorded 18 saves for Chicago. The Jr Bulldogs incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Michigan's Schnoes stopped 40 shots out of the 44 that he faced. The Ice Dogs incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
