Moss nets hat trick, leads Ft. Wayne to 8-4 win over Wisconsin

Derek Moss lifted the Ft. Wayne Federals to an 8-4 victory with a hat trick against the Wisconsin Rampage.

Moss notched his first tally 2:43 into the second period. He then added goals at 6:18 into the second and at 7:08 into the third.

Wisconsin's power play was ineffective against Ft. Wayne's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Federals forced the Rampage goalie Cason Kirkpatrick to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Ft. Wayne cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on five chances. The Federals could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Maxwell Richter, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors.

Ft. Wayne also got points from Alexander Fasick, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Moss, who also had three goals and two assists, Tyler Teglia, who also grabbed one goal and three assists, Cameron Wirick, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Nicholas Denice, who also finished with one goal and three assists. Ian Harris also scored for Ft. Wayne. In addition, Ft. Wayne received assists from Austin Allard, who had two and Eric Raspotnik, Kelly Hay, and Tyler Drussell, who each chipped in one.

Wisconsin kept Ft. Wayne's goalie busy throughout the game, and Richter made 37 saves on 41 shots. The defensemen of the Rampage were also effective in the Federals' zone, and came away with two goals.

Wisconsin was led by Robert Smythe, who had one goal and two assists. Smythe scored 6:08 into the third period to make the score 6-3 Ft. Wayne. Blake Klippel provided the assist. Wisconsin additionally got points from Smythe, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Wisconsin got a goal from Connor Dillon as well. More assists for Wisconsin came via Corey Collum, Brenner Blankenship, Braden Smith, and William Robertson, who contributed one each.

Kirkpatrick turned away 29 pucks between the pipes for the Rampage. Wisconsin incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
