Spencer Johnson netted a hat trick to lead the Ft. Wayne Federals over the Wisconsin Rampage, 12-4. Johnson notched his first tally 11:23 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:38 into the second and at 17:39 into the third.Ft. Wayne gained an early advantage, leading 4-0 by the end of the first period. The Federals were particularly efficient on the power play, as they banged in five goals on the advantage. Ft. Wayne racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The Federals had been averaging 24 minutes in penalties per game. Ft. Wayne forced Rampage's goalies to work without much rest, launching 52 shots and forcing 40 saves. Kyle Weiner made 27 stops and Cason Kirkpatrick made 13. The Federals surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Ft. Wayne averages six goals per game. The defensemen of the Federals were also effective in Wisconsin's zone, and came away with four goals. Ft. Wayne additionally got points from Johnson, who also tallied three goals and four assists, Cody Hess, who also registered two goals and five assists, Derek Moss, who also had one goal and one assist, Tyler Mason, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Ian Harris, who also registered one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Ft. Wayne included Brendan Lewis, who had two and Cameron Wirick and Colin Fletcher, who each put in one. More assists for Ft. Wayne came via Nicholas Bentz, Austin Allard, Chad Swartz, Tyler Drussell, and Nicholas Denice, who each chipped in one. The Rampage were often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Wisconsin surpassed its season average of 26 penalty minutes per game. The Rampage forced Ft. Wayne goalie Dustin Buchanan to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Wisconsin was helped by Braden Smith, who finished with two goals. Smith scored the first of his two goals at 7:32 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Ft. Wayne. Jakob Smith picked up the assist. Smith's next tally made the score 7-3 Ft. Wayne with 3:39 left in the second period. The Rampage had gained a power play chance when Fletcher was whistled for head contact. Blake Klippel provided the assist. Wisconsin also got points from Thomas Tambourine, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Wisconsin got a goal from James Pooler as well. In addition, Wisconsin received assists from Brenner Blankenship, Ryan Rinko, Daniel Kerr, and Trevor Sabo, who contributed one each. The Federals' Buchanan stopped 27 shots out of the 31 that he faced. For Ft. Wayne, Fletcher was ejected from the game. Wisconsin registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
