GAME RECAP

Indianapolis boosted by Maher's play in net, beats St. Louis 2-1

Pan Am Arena    Fri, Feb 24, 2012

A stellar performance between the pipes by James Maher helped the Indianapolis Inferno defeat the St. Louis Frontenacs, 2-1.

Indianapolis was sparked by Michael Luke, who grabbed one goal. Luke scored 6:44 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Indianapolis. Cody Doyle assisted on the tally.

The Inferno put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow St. Louis to score on any of its four power plays.

Ian Hurst also scored for Indianapolis. Other players who recorded assists for Indianapolis were Miroslav Poner and Taylor McConnell, who each chipped in one.

The Frontenacs managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. St. Louis finished below its season average of 30 penalty minutes per game. The Frontenacs did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. St. Louis averages three goals per game. Indianapolis was unable to stop the Frontenacs from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Louis eventually piled up 58 shots on goal.

The Frontenacs were led by Nicholas Busse, who scored the team's only goal. Busse scored 17:02 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Indianapolis. Andrew Jarvis provided the assist.

James Maher made 57 saves for the Inferno on 58 shots. Indianapolis incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Bryan Lowery turned away 26 pucks between the pipes for St. Louis.
