Chicago squeaks by Central Wisconsin, 5-3

The Chicago Jr Bulldogs and the Central Wisconsin Saints were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Chicago made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Robert Gervino secured the win for the Jr Bulldogs with a goal in the second period.

Gervino had one goal and three assists to lead Chicago. Gervino scored 16:40 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Chicago. Matthew Soukup picked up the assist.

The referees were busy during the game, as 19 penalties were assessed during the course of the contest.

The the Jr Bulldogs penalty box was a busy place as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. Chicago surpassed its season average of 17 penalty minutes per game. The Jr Bulldogs forced Central Wisconsin goalie Mitchell Hanson to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

Chicago got a goal from Michael Maines as well. In addition, Chicago received assists from Adam Marshall, Colin McAuliffe, Mitchell Krafcheck, Thomas Puetz, Andrew Kantsedal, and Jordan Swiderski, who each chipped in one.

The Saints racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Central Wisconsin had been averaging 24 minutes in penalties per game. The Saints' offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 45 shots put on Chicago's net.

Central Wisconsin was helped by Max Culp, who had one goal and one assist. Culp scored on the power play 6:34 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Chicago. The Saints had gained a power play chance when Joseph Justyn was whistled for tripping. Jeremy Ebert assisted on the tally. Central Wisconsin also got points from Joseph Mitch, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Colin Van Hauter also scored for Central Wisconsin. More assists for Central Wisconsin came via Kevin McMorrow and Daniel Dellenbach, who contributed one each.

Justyn turned away 42 pucks between the pipes for the Jr Bulldogs. Chicago registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Hanson recorded 40 saves for Central Wisconsin. The Saints registered two goals on six power play opportunities.
