Central Wisconsin beats Chicago 5-4 after comeback scare

The Central Wisconsin Saints survived a determined comeback attempt by the Chicago Jr Bulldogs on the way to a 5-4 win.

A goal by Colin Van Hauter put Central Wisconsin up 5-1 in the second period, but Chicago pulled to within one on Colin McAuliffe's tally 15:41 into the third period.

The Saints were particularly efficient on the power play, as they banged in two goals on the advantage.

Central Wisconsin made Jr Bulldogs' goalies to work without much rest, finishing with 37 shots and forcing 32 saves. Lee Satran made 20 stops and Joseph Lennox made 12.

The Jr Bulldogs did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Chicago puts an average of six pucks into the net per game. The Jr Bulldogs kept the Saints' goalie busy throughout the game, and Stephen Salek made 42 saves on 46 shots. Chicago gave up more goals than its normal season average. The Jr Bulldogs average two goals allowed per game.

Chicago was led by Daniel Doyle, who registered two goals. Doyle scored the first of his two goals at 34 seconds into the third period to make the score 5-2 Central Wisconsin. Robert Gervino picked up the assist. Doyle's next tally made the score 5-3 Central Wisconsin with 12:34 left in the third period. The Jr Bulldogs had taken the advantage when Central Wisconsin's Chase Engdahl got sent off for holding. Peter Jorgensen also scored for Chicago. More assists for Chicago came via Vittorio Bruno, Luke Morin, and Jordan Swiderski, who each chipped in one.

The Saints incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Chicago incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
