Behind a great game by Bret Tyler, who had one goal and three assists, the Columbus Cottonmouths defeated the Fayetteville FireAntz, 8-3.

Tyler got on the board by slotting home a power play goal 7:42 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Columbus. Columbus earned a power play opportunity when Jesse Biduke was put in the box for tripping. Sam Bowles assisted on the tally. Tyler dished an assist on Andrew Krelove's goal that made the score 4-0 Columbus at 2:09 into the second period. He then added assists on Jordan Braid's goal at 13:44 into the third and on Bowles' goal at 15:50 into the third.

Fayetteville was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Cottonmouths were able to score six times while on the power play.

Columbus stifled the FireAntz's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cottonmouths outdid their season average for goals scored. Columbus has scored at the pace of 3.3 goals per game during the current campaign. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals. The Cottonmouths' offense was clicking better than usual and put 40 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.9 shots per game they average.

Columbus also got a goal from Kevin Kessler as well. In addition, Columbus received assists from Tom Maldonado, who had two and Greg Beller, Levi Lind, and Daniel Amesbury, who each chipped in one.

By firing 24 shots on goal, Fayetteville exceeded the 20.8 shots it averages per game this year. The FireAntz found themselves short handed often, totaling 26 penalty minutes and allowing nine power plays.

Andrew Loewen made 21 saves for Columbus on 24 shots. The Cottonmouths incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Mike Brown recorded 32 saves for Fayetteville. The FireAntz registered zero goals on five power play opportunities.
