Branden Kosolofsky lifted the Augusta RiverHawks to a 6-2 victory with a hat trick against the Columbus Cottonmouths. Kosolofsky notched his first tally 9:45 into the first period. He then added goals at 1:58 into the third and at 4:22 into the third.Augusta was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and three majors for 29 minutes in penalty time. The RiverHawks had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. Augusta surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The RiverHawks have scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign. Augusta's offense was clicking better than usual and put 36 shots on goal during the game, better than the 23.1 shots per game it averages. Augusta additionally got points from Kyle Watson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Egor Mironov also scored for Augusta. Other players who recorded assists for Augusta were Aaron McGill, who had two and Drew Baker and Neil Graham, who each chipped in one. Columbus forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and three majors for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Cottonmouths surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. Columbus' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Augusta power plays. The Cottonmouths failed to reach their usual level of shot production, putting 21 pucks on goal after averaging 26.6 shots per game this season. Columbus was led by Sam Bowles, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Bowles scored on the power play 12:34 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Augusta. A high sticking penalty on Jim Gehring had put the Cottonmouths on the power play. Bret Tyler provided the assist. Columbus also got a goal from Jordan Braid as well. The RiverHawks' Jon Olthuis stopped 19 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Ian Vigier rejected 30 shots on goal for Columbus. The Cottonmouths registered two goals on six power play opportunities.
