Augusta survives Mississippi RiverKings comeback, wins 3-2

The Augusta RiverHawks survived a determined comeback attempt by Mississippi RiverKings on the way to a 3-2 win.

A goal by Jim Gehring put Augusta up 2-0 in the third period, but Mississippi RiverKings pulled to within one on Gabriel Boutin-Gagnon's tally 4:40 into the third period.

The RiverHawks were sparked by Branden Kosolofsky, who finished with one goal. Kosolofsky scored 18:11 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Augusta. Chris Wiggin assisted on the tally.

Augusta put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mississippi RiverKings to score on any of its three power plays. The RiverHawks put 29 shots on net during the contest, more than the 25.9 they average per game.

Augusta also got points from Neil Graham, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Augusta were Matt Auffrey and Ed Snetsinger, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi RiverKings' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Augusta power plays. Mississippi RiverKings' offense was clicking better than usual and put 31 shots on goal during the game, better than the 25.6 shots per game it averages.

Mississippi RiverKings also got a goal from Nick Vandenbeld as well. In addition, Mississippi RiverKings received assists from Matt Whitehead, Kyle Lundale, and Mark Magnowski, who contributed one a piece.

Peter Skoggard made 29 saves for Augusta on 31 shots. The RiverHawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. David Wilson rejected 26 shots on goal for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
