Louisiana survives Mississippi RiverKings comeback, wins 3-2

Mississippi RiverKings tried to dig itself out of a two-goal hole, but the Louisiana IceGators held on for a 3-2 victory.

Louisiana made the score 3-1 on a goal by Tyler Lyon at 11:30 in the second period, and Mississippi RiverKings got as close as 3-2 when Leland Fidler scored 3:46 into the third period.

The IceGators were led by Lyon, who finished with one goal.

Louisiana excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Louisiana also got a goal from August Aiken as well. More assists for Louisiana came via Josh Duplantis, Shawn McNeil, Josh Boyd, Jason Hill, Tyler Fernandez, and Robert Short, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi RiverKings' offense was clicking better than usual and put 29 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.2 shots per game it averages.

Mississippi RiverKings was helped by Matt Whitehead, who had one goal. Whitehead scored 19:23 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Louisiana. Mark Magnowski assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi RiverKings were Chevan Wilson, who had one.

The IceGators' Jeff Rose stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Louisiana totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play. David Wilson rejected 20 shots on goal for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings ended with 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors.
