Stoddard leads Mississippi RiverKings over Columbus, 6-3

Behind a great game by Darrell Stoddard, who had one goal and two assists, Mississippi RiverKings defeated the Columbus Cottonmouths, 6-3.

Stoddard got on the board by slotting home a short handed goal 18:15 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings found itself down a man on Nick Vandenbeld's interference. Stoddard dished an assist on Chevan Wilson's goal that made the score 3-1 Mississippi RiverKings at 5:09 into the second period. He added another helper on Mark Magnowski's goal that made the score 5-3 Mississippi RiverKings at 19:01 into the third period.

Columbus was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as Mississippi RiverKings was able to score four times while on the power play.

Mississippi RiverKings was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game Mississippi RiverKings had been spending in the box. Mississippi RiverKings outdid its season average for goals scored. Mississippi RiverKings averages 3.0 goals per game. Mississippi RiverKings' offense was clicking better than usual and put 36 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.1 shots per game it averages.

Mississippi RiverKings also got points from Matt Whitehead, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Mississippi RiverKings also got a goal from Ken Selby as well. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Leland Fidler and Kevin Hamel, who contributed one a piece.

The Cottonmouths forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. Columbus surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. By firing 29 shots on goal, the Cottonmouths exceeded the 25.4 shots they average per game this year.

Columbus was led by Peter MacDougall, who grabbed one goal and one assist. MacDougall scored on the power play 19:10 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Mississippi RiverKings. Andrew Krelove assisted on the tally. Jordan Braid also scored for Columbus. In addition, Columbus received assists from Orrin Hergott, John Sullivan, and Derek Pallardy, who each chipped in one.

Scott Darling recorded 26 saves for Mississippi RiverKings. The Cottonmouths' Andrew Loewen stopped 30 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Columbus registered two goals on seven power play opportunities.
