Mississippi RiverKings holds on for 3-2 win against Mississippi Surge

Mississippi Surge tried to dig itself out of a two-goal hole, but Mississippi RiverKings held on for a 3-2 victory.

Mississippi RiverKings took a 3-1 lead during the third period, only to have Mississippi Surge storm back on a Nick Klaren goal 17:54 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The referees were busy during the game, as 15 penalties were assessed during the course of the contest.

Mississippi RiverKings' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Mississippi Surge power plays. Mississippi RiverKings put 29 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26 it averages per game. Mississippi RiverKings' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Mississippi RiverKings finished with 14 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Darrell Stoddard, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors.

Mississippi RiverKings was led by Mark Magnowski, who registered one goal and one assist. Magnowski scored 7:47 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Mississippi RiverKings. Leland Fidler provided the assist. Ken Selby also scored for Mississippi RiverKings. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi RiverKings were Mike Tuomi, Deven Stillar, and Scott Darling, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi Surge could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was James Isaacs, who totaled six minutes in penalty time with three minors. With 32 shots on target during the contest, Mississippi Surge exceeded the 26 shots it averages per game this year.

Mississippi Surge was led by Shawn Skelly, who finished with one goal and one assist. Skelly scored 6:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mississippi Surge. Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn picked up the assist. In addition, Mississippi Surge received assists from Tyler Ruel, who had two.

Mississippi RiverKings' Darling stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Mississippi RiverKings registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Nick Eno turned away 26 pucks between the pipes for Mississippi Surge.
