Huge game by Stoddard boosts Mississippi RiverKings over Huntsville, 5-2

Darrell Stoddard was all over the ice for Mississippi RiverKings, as he tallied one goal and two assists in Mississippi RiverKings' 5-2 win over the Huntsville Havoc.

Stoddard scored 18:19 into the third period to make the score 5-2 Mississippi RiverKings. Stoddard dished an assist on Matt Whitehead's goal that made the score 1-0 Mississippi RiverKings at 1:12 into the first period. He added another helper on Mark Magnowski's goal that made the score 3-1 Mississippi RiverKings at 1:04 into the third period.

The referees were busy during the game, as 25 penalties were assessed during the course of the contest.

Mississippi RiverKings racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and three majors for 39 minutes in penalty time. Mississippi RiverKings surpassed its season average of 17 penalty minutes per game.

Mississippi RiverKings also got points from Tanner Hlookoff, who also had one goal and one assist, Whitehead, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Stoddard, who also registered one goal and two assists. Mike Tuomi also scored for Mississippi RiverKings. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Nick Vandenbeld, who had two and Cameron Sault and Deven Stillar, who contributed one each.

Huntsville forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and three majors for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22 minutes per game the Havoc had been spending in the box. Huntsville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Mississippi RiverKings power plays. The 40 shots that the Havoc put on net surpassed Huntsville's average of 21 shots per game this season.

The Havoc were helped by Ray Ortiz, who tallied one goal. Ortiz scored on the power play 5:08 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Huntsville earned a power play opportunity when Sault was put in the box for slashing. Glenn Detulleo assisted on the tally. Huntsville got a goal from Mike MacDonald as well. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Jeff Hazelwood, Matt Hache, and Kyle Crawford, who each chipped in one.

David Wilson made 38 saves for Mississippi RiverKings on 40 shots. Hache recorded 22 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville registered two goals on 10 power play opportunities.
