Fayetteville falls to Knoxville in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Knoxville Ice Bears' Emery Olauson scored 1:19 into overtime to beat the Fayetteville FireAntz, 5-4 (OT).

Knoxville managed to stay even more disciplined than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Ice Bears ended up below its season average of 19 penalty minutes per game. Knoxville put 51 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27 it averages per game.

Ricky Helmbrecht also scored for Knoxville. In addition, Knoxville received assists from Eric Satim, who had two, Kevin Swider, who had four, and Kyle VanderMale and Brett Valliquette, who each chipped in one.

Fayetteville kept the Ice Bears' goalie busy throughout the game, and Kyle Rank made 29 saves on 33 shots.

The FireAntz were helped by Mike Forgie, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Forgie scored the first of his two goals at 2:35 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Sean Cryer picked up the assist. Forgie's next tally made the score 4-3 Fayetteville with 15:21 left in the third period. Kyle Frieday provided the assist. Fayetteville got a goal from Mike Atkinson as well. More assists for Fayetteville came via Chris Rebernik, who had three and Matt Smyth and Robert Sich, who contributed one each.

Knoxville registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Mike Brown recorded 46 saves for Fayetteville. The FireAntz incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. For Fayetteville, Brown was ejected from the game.
