Thinel's hat trick boosts Missouri over Evansville, 4-2

The Evansville IceMen could not stop the Missouri Mavericks' Sebastien Thinel, who tallied a hat trick in a 4-2 win.

Thinel notched his first tally 39 seconds into the third period. He then added goals at 7:18 into the third and at 14:30 into the third.

Evansville's power play was ineffective against Missouri's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Mavericks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Missouri averages 28.4 shots on goal per game, but only sent 22 pucks on net against the IceMen.

Missouri additionally got points from Andrew Courtney, who also racked up one goal and three assists. In addition, Missouri received assists from Ed McGrane, who had two and Cole Ruwe and Mike Wakita, who each chipped in one.

Evansville's offense was clicking better than usual and put 40 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.3 shots per game it averages.

The IceMen were helped by Malcolm Gwilliam, who had one goal. Gwilliam scored 8:45 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Missouri. Josh Beaulieu picked up the assist. Sean OConnor also scored for Evansville. Other players who recorded assists for Evansville were Brian Bicek, Todd Robinson, and Philippe Plante, who contributed one a piece.

Charlie Effinger recorded 38 saves for the Mavericks. Missouri incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Evansville's Pier-Olivier Pelletier stopped 18 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The IceMen incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
