Missouri survives Wichita comeback, wins 4-3

The Missouri Mavericks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Wichita Thunder on the way to a 4-3 win.

Missouri took a 4-0 lead during the second period, only to have Wichita storm back on a RG Flath goal 17:24 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Patrick Schafer had two goals to lead the Mavericks to victory. Schafer scored at 2:18 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Missouri and again while 6:40 into the second to make the score 3-0 Missouri.

Missouri managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Mavericks wound up below its season average of 17 penalty minutes per game.

Missouri got a goal from John-Scott Dickson as well. More assists for Missouri came via Brandon Smith, who had two and Tristin Llewellyn and Lukas Bohunicky, who contributed one each.

The Thunder's offense was clicking better than usual and put 39 shots on goal during the game, better than the 22 shots per game they average.

Wichita was led by Matt Summers, who dished out three assists.

Charlie Effinger recorded 36 saves for Missouri. The Mavericks registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Adam Russo turned away 19 pucks between the pipes for the Thunder. Wichita incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
