Potomac Patriots holds on for 3-2 win against Frederick Freeze

The Potomac Patriots Patriots survived a determined comeback attempt by Frederick Freeze on the way to a 3-2 win.

Potomac Patriots took a 3-0 lead during the second period, only to have Frederick Freeze storm back on a Casey Donegan goal 18:55 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Patriots' penalty kill excelled, as Potomac Patriots gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The Patriots stifled Frederick Freeze's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Potomac Patriots could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Andrew Turgeon, who totaled 12 minutes in penalty time with one minor and one misconduct.

The Patriots were helped by Peter Wydler, who tallied one goal. Wydler scored 11:33 into the second period to make the score Potomac Patriots. Chase Ainsworth provided the assist. Alexander Grose also scored for Potomac Patriots. Other players who recorded assists for Potomac Patriots were Charles Rempe and Chris Howland, who contributed one each.

Frederick Freeze could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was James Dorrian, who totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one misconduct.

Frederick Freeze got a goal from Pierce McCaull as well. More assists for Frederick Freeze came via Bradley Gratton, James Thayer, and Adam Taylor, who each chipped in one.

Alec Yutzler made 23 saves for Potomac Patriots on 25 shots. The Patriots registered one goal on nine power play opportunities. Daniyal Hannan recorded 24 saves for Frederick Freeze.
