Alexandria survives Aberdeen comeback, wins 4-3Runestone Community Center Fri, Mar 30, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Alexandria Blizzard survived a determined comeback attempt by the Aberdeen Wings on the way to a 4-3 win. Alexandria took a 4-1 lead during the third period, only to have Aberdeen storm back on a Joe Mottiqua goal 16:08 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The Blizzard allowed the opposing goaltender to relax, getting only 11 shots on goal to force seven saves. The shot total fell below Alexandria's season average of 19.9 shots per game. The Blizzard were helped by Tucker Coborn, who racked up one goal and one assist. Coborn scored 4:43 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Alexandria. Gage Torrel picked up the assist. Alexandria additionally got points from Craig Lindegard, who also had one goal and one assist and Torrel, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Reid Sturos also scored for Alexandria. In addition, Alexandria received assists from Matt Youso, who had one and Michael Mooney and Vadim Gyesbreghs, who each chipped in two. The Wings barely challenged the opposing goalie, taking only eight shots on target to force five saves. Team.mascot's final shot tally was well below the team's average of 15.7 pucks on net per game. Aberdeen was helped by Trevor Husch, who grabbed one goal. Husch scored 12:19 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Alexandria. CJ Reuschlein provided the assist. Aberdeen also got points from Ross Pavek, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Mottiqua, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Aberdeen came via Tyler Dunagan, Joseph Sullivan, and Mike Parnell, who contributed one a piece. Michael Bitzer made five saves for Alexandria on eight shots. The Blizzard finished the contest with no penalties and went 0-for-0 with the man advantage. Reid Mimmack rejected seven shots on goal for the Wings. Aberdeen avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored one goal off of zero power plays.
