Alexandria outlasts Austin, 5-3Runestone Community Center Sun, Mar 25, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Alexandria Blizzard and the Austin Bruins were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Alexandria made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Reid Sturos' goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Thomas Williams was all over the ice for the Blizzard, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Williams scored the first of his two goals at 6:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alexandria. Sean Mostrom assisted on the tally. Williams' next tally made the score 2-1 Alexandria with 6:56 left in the first period. Alexandria had taken the advantage when Austin's Charlie Adams got sent off for slashing. Dylan Zink picked up the assist. Alexandria also got points from Matt Youso, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Hayden Trupp also scored for Alexandria. Other players who recorded assists for Alexandria were Aidan Cavallini, Craig Lindegard, Seth Ronsberg, and Gage Torrel, who each chipped in one. The Bruins' offense was clicking better than usual and put 34 shots on goal during the game, better than the 28.6 shots per game they average. Austin was helped by CJ Smith, who had one goal. Smith scored 11:16 into the first period to make the score 1-1. John Simonson assisted on the tally. Austin also got a goal from Jonathan Gehrt as well. More assists for Austin came via Chris Fischer, Jeremy Finger, Matt Hansen, and AJ Reid, who contributed one a piece. Jacob Meyers rejected 31 shots on goal for the Blizzard. Alexandria incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Bruins' Nicholas Lehr stopped 25 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Austin incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
