The Jamestown Ironmen tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Kalamazoo Jr. K Wings would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-4. Kalamazoo took a 6-3 lead during the third period, only to have Jamestown storm back on a Bryan Watt goal 19:04 into the third period to pull to two goals down. The Jr. K Wings found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Kalamazoo averages 3.5 goals per game. The Jr. K Wings were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to one goal off of nine man advantages. Kalamazoo's defensemen bolstered the Jr. K Wings' offensive attack, as they bombarded Joe Gladnick with 20 shots. Kalamazoo's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Jr. K Wings finished with 38 penalty minutes. With 44 shots on target during the contest, Kalamazoo exceeded the 28.8 shots it averages per game this year. The Jr. K Wings were led by Nick Kovalchik, who tallied two goals. Kovalchik scored the first of his two goals at 16:28 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Chris Leone provided the assist. Kovalchik's next tally made the score 2-1 Kalamazoo with 17:54 left in the second period. Andrew Graves assisted on the tally. Kalamazoo also got points from Daniel Cesarz, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Kalamazoo also got a goal from Kyle Gattelaro as well. More assists for Kalamazoo came via Matt Wurst, who had two and Sean Campbell, Anthony Appleyard, Brock Raffaele, and Austin Hervey, who each chipped in one. The Ironmen were often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 65 minutes in penalty time. Jamestown had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Ironmen put 25 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.5 they average per game. Jamestown was led by Anthony Coles, who finished with two goals. Coles scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:49 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Kalamazoo. The Ironmen had gained a power play chance when Campbell was whistled for elbowing. Aaron Scheppelman picked up the assist. Coles' next tally on the power play made the score 5-3 Kalamazoo with 17:09 left in the third period. Jon Smith assisted on the tally. Cody Sarmiento also scored for Jamestown. In addition, Jamestown received assists from Michael Mazzotta and Luc Gerdes, who contributed one a piece. Kenneth MacLean recorded 21 saves for Kalamazoo. Jamestown's starting goalie, Joe Gladnick, made 23 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Joe Ballmer, who stopped 15 shots. The Ironmen registered two goals on five power play opportunities. For Jamestown, Michael Zagari was ejected from the game.
