Michigan survives Port Huron comeback, wins 4-3

The Port Huron Fighting Falcons tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Michigan Warriors would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

Michigan made the score 3-1 on a goal by Tyler Perpich at 6:15 in the second period, and Port Huron got as close as 3-2 when Logan Lemirande scored 11:03 into the third period.

The Warriors were sparked by Robert Mantha, who finished with one goal. Mantha scored 19:46 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Michigan. Chris Eckler assisted on the tally.

Michigan forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Warriors had been averaging 13.0 minutes in penalties per game. With 28 shots on target during the contest, Michigan exceeded the 22.6 shots it averages per game this year.

Martin Gruse also scored for Michigan. More assists for Michigan came via Travis Hill, Daniel Sakalian, Ben Gislason, Joey Sanchez, Alec (AJ) White, and Joseph Ferriss, who each chipped in one.

The Fighting Falcons put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Warriors to score on any of their five power plays. By firing 43 shots on goal, Port Huron exceeded the 32.2 shots it averages per game this year.

Port Huron also got a goal from Ian Miller as well. Other players who recorded assists for Port Huron were Bret Lewandowski, Jake Goldberg, Rick DeRosa, Nicholas Sierra, and Alex Archibald, who contributed one a piece.

Michigan's Trevor Gorsuch stopped 40 shots out of the 43 that he faced. Peter Megariotis rejected 24 shots on goal for the Fighting Falcons. Port Huron totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
