Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Alaska Avalanche defeated the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Fairbanks' shootout goal was scored by Gabe Levin. Alaska's other shootout goal was scored by Brandon Brossoit.The Avalanche relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Tanner Fahlstedt, Gage Christianson and Joe Schmitz took 12 of the team's 22 shots. Brossoit also scored for Alaska. Other players who recorded assists for Alaska were Evan Hesse, Wehebe Darge, Cobi Smith-Mass, and Codey Hansen, who each chipped in one. The Ice Dogs were helped by Jeff Earnest, who had one goal. Earnest scored 5:40 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Doug Rose picked up the assist. In addition, Fairbanks received assists from Alec Hajdukovich and Sean ORourke, who contributed one a piece. Nick Kulmanovsky made 22 saves for Alaska on 24 shots. The Avalanche incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Steve Perry recorded 19 saves for Fairbanks. The Ice Dogs incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
