Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Corpus Christi IceRays defeated the Texas Tornado in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO). The two teams needed 12 turns to complete the shootout. Texas got a shootout goal from Marc Biggs. Corpus Christi also got a shootout goal from Jonathan Grebosky.The IceRays overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Corpus Christi fell behind 2-0 after a power play goal by the Tornado's Biggs at 9:54 in the first period. The IceRays tied things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Jackson Leef at 14:38 in the third period. Corpus Christi surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the IceRays average 2.9 goals per contest. Corpus Christi took advantage of Texas' penalties, tallying two goals off of three power play opportunities. The IceRays were led by Eric Purcell, who racked up one goal and one assist. Purcell scored on the power play 13:08 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Texas. Corpus Christi had taken the advantage when the Tornado's Drew Allen got sent off for slashing. Beau Walker assisted on the tally. Brandon Smith also scored for Corpus Christi. More assists for Corpus Christi came via Payden Mielke, Perry DArrisso, Grebosky, and Joe Ginley, who each chipped in one. With 42 shots on target during the contest, Texas exceeded the 28.8 shots it averages per game this year. Texas also got points from Alex Temby, who also had one goal and one assist. Texas also got a goal from Skyler Spiller as well. In addition, Texas received assists from Nick Neville, Jordan Lovick, Mitchell McPherson, Mico Solorzano, and Drew Mayer, who contributed one a piece. Anthony Stolarz rejected 38 shots on goal for the IceRays. Corpus Christi incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Tornado's Frederick Leisner stopped 17 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Texas incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
