Kenai River rips Dawson Creek, 7-2Soldotna Sports Center Thu, Mar 22, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kenai River Brown Bears had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-2 win over the Dawson Creek Rage. Kenai River was led by Marek Hemsky, who had one goal and one assist. Hemsky scored 16:28 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Kenai River. Chris Blessing provided the assist. The Brown Bears' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Dawson Creek power plays. Kenai River surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Brown Bears average 3.0 goals per contest. Kenai River's offense was clicking better than usual and put 38 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.9 shots per game it averages. Kenai River also had goals scored by Matt Thompson, who had two and Dominic Granato and Zac Lazzaro, who each put in one. More assists for Kenai River came via Brett Lubanski, Jesse Ramsey, Anthony Stempin, Alex Frere, and Chris Nuth, who contributed one a piece and Jacob Davidson and Sean Muller, who each chipped in two. Dawson Creek stifled the Brown Bears' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 28 shots on goal, the Rage exceeded the 21.6 shots they average per game this year. Dawson Creek was helped by Scott Fellnermayr, who tallied two goals. Fellnermayr scored the first of his two goals at 1:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Dawson Creek. Carter Page assisted on the tally. Fellnermayr's next tally made the score 5-2 Kenai River with 14:53 left in the second period. Page provided the assist. In addition, Dawson Creek received assists from Luke Ripley and Brett Zarazun, who contributed one a piece. Austin Severson made 26 saves for Kenai River on 28 shots. The Brown Bears incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Rage's starting goalie, Edward Dyson, made 20 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Paul Bourbeau, who stopped 11 shots. Dawson Creek incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
