The Alaska Avalanche used a three-goal second period to put away the Kenai River Brown Bears, 5-0. Alaska was led by Brandon Brossoit, who had one goal and one assist. Brossoit scored 12:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alaska. Cody Bisbing provided the assist. The Avalanche put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Kenai River to score on any of its four power plays. Alaska's defense was surprisingly good. The Avalanche average 2.8 goals allowed per game. By firing 34 shots on goal, Alaska exceeded the 26.7 shots it averages per game this year. Alaska additionally got points from Connor Wright, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Codey Hansen, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Tanner Fahlstedt also scored for Alaska. In addition, Alaska received assists from Justin Lutsch, Evan Hesse, Kevin Novakovich, and Jeff Bergh, who each chipped in one. The Brown Bears managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Kenai River finished below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The Brown Bears average 24.9 shots on goal per game, but only sent 15 pucks on net against the Avalanche. Kenai River was held below its usual level of production. The Brown Bears average 3.1 goals per game. Kenai River was led by Matt Thompson, who took four shots. Bodhi Engum rejected 15 shots on goal for Alaska. The Avalanche incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Austin Severson recorded 29 saves for the Brown Bears.
