Jamestown outlasts Traverse City, 3-2Molon Rink Sat, Mar 17, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Jamestown Ironmen and the Traverse City North Stars was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Jamestown emerged with a 3-2 win. The Ironmen gained the winning advantage on a goal by Jeff McFarland 17:17 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Jamestown was led by McFarland, who racked up one goal. The Ironmen put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Traverse City to score on any of its three power plays. Jamestown's offense was clicking better than usual and put 27 shots on goal during the game, better than the 20.1 shots per game it averages. Jamestown additionally got points from Matt Moore, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Jamestown also got a goal from Luc Gerdes as well. Other players who recorded assists for Jamestown were Michael Mazzotta, who had two and Blake Kelley and Anthony Coles, who each chipped in one. The North Stars managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Traverse City wound up below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The 40 shots that the North Stars put on net surpassed Traverse City's average of 23.8 shots per game this season. The North Stars were helped by Jared Van Wormer, who registered one goal. Van Wormer scored 6:05 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Eric Rivard provided the assist. Traverse City also got points from Mitchell Snider, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Traverse City came via Kyle Froese and Robert Wiener, who contributed one a piece. Joe Gladnick rejected 38 shots on goal for the Ironmen. Jamestown incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Zach Nagelvoort recorded 24 saves for Traverse City.
