Chicago beats Coulee Region 9-5 as Schrotenboer gets hat trick

Zach Schrotenboer lifted the Chicago Hitmen to a 9-5 victory with a hat trick against the Coulee Region Chill.

Schrotenboer's first goal came 5:58 into the first period. He then added goals at 6:26 into the third and at 19:52 into the third.

Chicago's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Hitmen average 2.9 goals per contest. Chicago got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. The Hitmen put 40 shots on net during the contest, more than the 21.8 they average per game.

Chicago additionally got points from Alex Murphy, who also tallied two goals and three assists, David Gandara, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Steven Sherman, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Joey Haydock, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Mike Fazio, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Chicago were Zach Mudge, who had two and Sean Madigan, Bryan Drazner, John Mejia, and Josh Nardella, who contributed one a piece.

Coulee Region surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Chill average 2.7 goals per game. With 58 shots on target during the contest, Coulee Region exceeded the 24.5 shots it averages per game this year.

The Chill were led by Chris Hughes, who grabbed two goals. Hughes scored the first of his two goals at 16:26 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Coulee Region. Tyler Klein assisted on the tally. Hughes' next tally made the score 5-4 Chicago with 30 seconds left in the second period. Micah Ranum picked up the assist. Patrick Steinhauser also scored for Coulee Region. More assists for Coulee Region came via Matt Fosdick, Cory Lushanko, Ross Luedtke, Ben Jaremko, Myles Maltz, and James Hughes, who each chipped in one.

Chicago's Nick Kohn stopped 53 shots out of the 58 that he faced. The Hitmen incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Coulee Region took out Aaron Davis after he had made 21 saves and installed David Heflin in goal, where he finished with 10 saves and the loss. The Chill incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
