Amarillo rolls over Corpus Christi, 8-1Amarillo Sat, Mar 17, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Amarillo Bulls had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-1 win over the Corpus Christi IceRays. Clint Carlisle had two goals to lead Amarillo to victory. Carlisle's tallies came at 2:16 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Amarillo and 6:22 into the second to make the score 4-1 Amarillo. The Bulls' penalty kill excelled, as Amarillo gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. The Bulls were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. Amarillo had been averaging 27.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Bulls stifled Corpus Christi's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Amarillo's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Bulls average 4.4 goals per contest. By firing 58 shots on goal, Amarillo exceeded the 37.1 shots it averages per game this year. Amarillo additionally got points from Karl Beckman, who also finished with one goal and one assist, TJ Sarcona, who also grabbed two goals and two assists, John Gustafsson, who also had one goal and one assist, and Mike Davis, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Amarillo also got a goal from Mike Erickson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Amarillo were Omar Mullan, who had two and Brooks Behling, Joe Kozlak, Matt Johnson, Luke Jenkins, and Greg Gibson, who each chipped in one. The IceRays could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game. Corpus Christi was led by Eric Purcell, who scored the team's only goal. Purcell scored 19:46 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Amarillo. Danny Fetzer provided the assist. Gregg Gruehl made 21 saves for the Bulls on 22 shots. Amarillo registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For the Bulls, Zane Popilock was ejected from the game. The IceRays' starting goalie, Anthony Stolarz, made 42 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Matt Laprade, who stopped eight shots.
