Kalamazoo stifles Michigan's comeback, gains 5-3 victory

The Michigan Warriors almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Kalamazoo Jr. K Wings managed to pull out a 5-3 win in the end.

Kalamazoo led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Jr. K Wings' Brandon Flood's scored at 6:39 in the second period to put Kalamazoo up 3-0.

The Jr. K Wings were led by Jacob McDowell, who grabbed one goal. McDowell scored 8:25 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Kalamazoo. Robbie Payne provided the assist.

By firing 40 shots on goal, Kalamazoo exceeded the 29.8 shots it averages per game this year.

Kalamazoo also got points from Christian George, who also had one goal and one assist. Anthony Appleyard also scored for Kalamazoo. More assists for Kalamazoo came via Andrew Graves, Brock Raffaele, Kyle Gattelaro, Nick Kovalchik, Danny Hamburg, Taylor Burden, and Austin Hervey, who each chipped in one.

Michigan stifled the Jr. K Wings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Warriors' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Michigan was helped by Bobby Bodette, who tallied one goal. Bodette scored short handed 10:36 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Kalamazoo. The Warriors were on a disadvantage when Matus Matis went off the ice for slashing. Michigan also got a goal from Daniel Sakalian as well. Other players who recorded assists for Michigan were Tyler Perpich and Chris Eckler, who contributed one a piece.

Kenneth MacLean recorded 22 saves for Kalamazoo. The Jr. K Wings incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Michigan's Trevor Gorsuch stopped 35 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Warriors incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
