The Alaska Avalanche took the lead against the Kenai River Brown Bears in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-1 victory. A goal 4:19 into the the first period by Tanner Fahlstedt proved to be the game winner, and powered Alaska to the victory The Avalanche earned a power play opportunity when Dominic Granato was put in the box for high sticking. Wehebe Darge picked up the assist.Alaska was paced by Gage Christianson, who finished with one goal. Christianson scored 14:59 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Alaska. Mitch Kontny provided the assist. The 31 shots that the Avalanche put on net surpassed Alaska's average of 27.0 shots per game this season. Other players who recorded assists for Alaska were Jordan Watt and Evan Janssen, who contributed one a piece. Kenai River barely challenged the opposing goalie, finishing with only 14 shots on target to force 13 saves. The shot total fell below the Brown Bears' season average of 25.4 shots per game. Kenai River did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Brown Bears put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. Kenai River was led by Sean Muller, who scored the team's only goal. Muller scored on the power play 16:26 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Alaska. The Brown Bears had gained a power play chance when Justin Lutsch was whistled for checking from behind. Chris Blessing picked up the assist. The Avalanche's Nick Kulmanovsky stopped 13 shots out of the 14 that he faced. Alaska incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Austin Severson made 29 saves for Kenai River on 31 shots. The Brown Bears incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
