Springfield downs Janesville in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Springfield Jr. Blues' Ben Kramer scored 4:49 into overtime to beat the Janesville Jets, 4-3 (OT).

With two goals and five assists between them, Josef Pontasch and Kyle Cook teamed up to power Springfield's offense. Pontasch finished with one goal and three assists and Cook also notched one goal and two assists.

Janesville's power play was ineffective against the Jr. Blues' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Springfield racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and two majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. The Jr. Blues surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Springfield put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jets to score on any of their nine power plays. The defensemen of the Jr. Blues were also effective in Janesville's zone, and came away with two goals. Springfield put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 29.6 it averages per game.

Kevin Walters also scored for Springfield. More assists for Springfield came via Chris Sitler, who had two.

The Jets relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Darren McCormick, William Preston and Jordan Bancroft took 16 of the team's 30 shots.

Janesville was led by Eric Carlson, who tallied two goals. Carlson scored the first of his two goals at 1:25 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Janesville. Jake Horton assisted on the tally. Carlson's next tally made the score 3-2 Janesville with 10:29 left in the second period. McCormick provided the assist. Janesville also got a goal from Pijus Rulevicius as well. Other players who recorded assists for Janesville were Truman Landowski, Jayce Paulseth, David Johnson, and Lawrence Childs, who each chipped in one.

Gabe Antoni rejected 27 shots on goal for the Jr. Blues. Springfield registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Team's Ruslan Pedan and Tyler Rehm were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Tony Kujava recorded 29 saves for the Jets. Janesville ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Jets, Michael Preston was ejected from the game.
