Gibson lifts Amarillo over Wichita Falls, 5-2

The Amarillo Bulls relied on the scoring touch of Greg Gibson, who netted two goals, to beat the Wichita Falls Wildcats, 5-2.

Gibson scored at 18:26 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Amarillo and again while 35 seconds into the third to make the score 4-2 Amarillo.

Amarillo's penalty kill excelled, as the Bulls gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Amarillo did not rack up many penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The Bulls fell short of the 27.0 minutes average penalties per game. Amarillo stifled Wichita Falls' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bulls kept the Wildcats' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jo Jo Jeanetta made 27 saves on 32 shots.

Amarillo also got points from John Rey, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and John Gustafsson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Clint Carlisle also scored for Amarillo. Other players who recorded assists for Amarillo were Joe Kozlak, who had three and Brandon Lubin, Mike Erickson, and TJ Sarcona, who each chipped in one.

Wichita Falls' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Amarillo power plays. The 28 shots that the Wildcats put on net surpassed Wichita Falls' average of 23.4 shots per game this season.

The Wildcats were helped by Brennen Parker, who racked up one goal. Parker scored 13:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wichita Falls. Zach Pochiro assisted on the tally. Wichita Falls also got a goal from Tyler Hope as well. In addition, Wichita Falls received assists from Tucker Poolman, George Pagonis, and Jason Eddy, who contributed one a piece.

Gregg Gruehl rejected 26 shots on goal for Amarillo. Wichita Falls ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major.
