Fairbanks outlasts Kenai River, 4-2

The game between the Fairbanks Ice Dogs and the Kenai River Brown Bears was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Fairbanks emerged with a 4-2 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Max Birkinbine secured the win for the Ice Dogs with a goal in the third period.

Birkinbine had one goal and two assists to lead Fairbanks. Birkinbine scored 12:01 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Fairbanks. Pavlo Padakin provided the assist.

The Ice Dogs pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 12 penalty minutes.

Fairbanks put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 28.6 it averages per game.

Fairbanks also got a goal from Logan Wendling as well. In addition, Fairbanks received assists from Pete Spratte, who had two and JT Osborn and Gabe Levin, who contributed one a piece.

Kenai River was helped by Sean Muller, who grabbed one goal. Muller scored short handed 2:23 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Fairbanks. The Brown Bears were on a disadvantage when Alex Frere went off the ice for checking from behind. Anthony Stempin picked up the assist. Brett Lubanski also scored for Kenai River. More assists for Kenai River came via Zac Lazzaro, who had one.

Steve Perry made 24 saves for the Ice Dogs on 26 shots. Fairbanks registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Austin Severson rejected 29 shots on goal for Kenai River. The Brown Bears incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
